The Lost and Forgotten Treasure of Westwood - Why Themes |

Westwood Families and Community -
You may have heard that we are on a treasure hunt! Over the summer, when our new playground toy, the Spinami, was being installed, a treasure box with our first clue was found. Since then, our students have found two other clues that pose a class challenge...that leads to another clue.
Each year, Westwood has a theme similar to this. Themes hold several purposes. The first being, they are fun. We have had Mindcraft, Westvengers, Cougar U., Build Your Brain (Lego), and it all started with Level Up! In addition to being fun and relevant to something kids know, we use themes to teach. Each theme is tied to a growth mindset set of strategies that encourage students to never give up, persevere, and use strategies when learning gets hard.
This year, we are committed to finding the treasure that is hidden somewhere on campus, left by the first principal of Westwood, Mr. Sleigh. Our mantra is "keep digging". Treasure hunters never stop digging or searching for their treasure, as soon as they do, they are sure never to find it. This idea has a great connection to learning. We will never grow unless we repeatedly try.
For you and for us, our treasure is our students. Thank you for your partnership as we uncover the treasure of education, learning, growth, and fun with your children!
Sincerely,
Scott Meyer, Principal

Family Movie Night - Join Us |
Our gym, PJS, blankets, families, PTO and Prep and Landing movies...what's better than that. We hope you can join us on December 11, in our gym at 5:30 for our movie night. Please note that this event is more about the atmosphere than the movie as kids get pretty excited to be in the gym with their lights off for a fun treat. We will be adjusting our moving from a full length feature to two, shorter, Prep and Landing.
Thank you PTO for great ideas and lots of fun!
