Westwood Update

Counselor's Corner

Dear Westwood Families,

We’re excited to introduce Emily Davis, our school counseling intern at Westwood Elementary! Emily is a graduate student at Capella University, currently completing her training in school counseling. She’ll be with us through December, working closely with our students and staff.

During her time here, Emily will be:

  • Teaching classroom guidance lessons

  • Leading small groups

  • Offering check-ins for students who may need extra support

We’ve recently begun the Growth Mindset & Goal Setting unit of Second Step®, a research-based social-emotional learning program. In this unit, students learn how to manage distractions, develop a growth mindset, and set and achieve goals—skills that support both academic success and positive peer relationships.

Later this year, we’ll also be covering units on:

  • Emotion Management

  • Empathy & Kindness

  • Bullying Prevention

  • Safety

  • Problem Solving

If you have any questions about our school counseling program or how we can support your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help every student grow and thrive!

Sincerely,

Jessica Kelly
