A Message From Mrs. Cook in Music |
Hello and happy fall Westwood families!
As the school year settles into rhythm, our music classes are filled with laughter, creativity, and community. Fall is a wonderful time for students to discover the joy of making music together—singing, moving, and playing instruments - as they build confidence as musicians. Through songs that celebrate the changing season - and sometimes are a little bit spooky - and activities that encourage teamwork, students experience the fun and excitement of learning through music.
All classes are hard at work on their Veterans Day music, and the Choir is multitasking, working on both Veterans Day AND the winter festivities! The sleigh bells are coming!
The easiest way to keep in the musical loop is by bookmarking our music website:

This is a great resource for practice tracks for any songs we are singing, especially for the choir! |

November 2025
Dear Westwood Families,
As part of Enumclaw School District’s comprehensive school counseling program, elementary school counselors are teaching lessons from the Second Step: Skills for Academic and Social Success curriculum in all of our classrooms. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. In order to help make our schools even more safe and supportive, we also teach from the Second Step: Child Protection Unit. At Westwood, these safety lessons start in November and go on through December. Students learn about the following topics:
General Safety Rules (Eight “Never-Never Rules”)
Students are learning safety rules, such as never touch guns, never play with fire, never ride on wheels without wearing a helmet, never go in water without an older person watching or never ride in a car without wearing a seatbelt.
Ways to Stay Safe
Students are learning to recognize when something is unsafe, refuse to participate, and report to an adult
“Always ask First” Rule
Students learn to “always ask a parent or person in charge first before going somewhere, doing something, or accepting something from someone”
Safe and Unsafe Touches
Students will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and a rule that no one should ever touch private body parts.
They will also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches, and to tell an adult if someone breaks rules about touching private body parts.
You may learn more information about the Child Protection Unit by going online to SecondStep.org and logging in with the grade level family activation key listed below:
