Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
Back-to-School Open House
During this second week of school, I had the privilege of attending the first Back-to-School Open House at Enumclaw High School. It was a joy to join the many families gathered in the Commons to hear from Athletic Director Jenny Pugh about student participation in sports and how parents and guardians can be the best “fans” and team supporters in the NPSL.
From there, families new to the high school moved into the gym, where Principal Dr. Merrell shared important expectations for students at EHS. Following the presentation, visitors had the chance to meet teachers and staff in their classrooms and workspaces. Each educator was eager to welcome families and highlight what students will be learning in the months ahead.
Events like this, held across all of our Enumclaw schools, are a wonderful way to begin the year. They offer parents, guardians, and students the opportunity to get acquainted (or reacquainted) with the school’s layout, understand expectations for students and families, and build connections that will support a fantastic year of learning and growth.
I strongly encourage you to attend your school’s upcoming Open House. These gatherings are an excellent way to strengthen our partnership in ensuring every student has a successful school year.

September is Attendance Awareness Month
School attendance is a major factor in student academic success. At all grades, students who miss no more than nine days per school year are the most engaged and on track for graduation. In fact, by 6th grade chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.

Welcome back to a new school year! As your children head back to class, Public Health – Seattle & King County wants to help everyone travel safely. Whether you're driving, walking, biking, or riding the bus, here are some key tips to keep in mind:
Slow down in school zones. Speed limits save lives, especially near schools.
Buckle up, every time. Make sure everyone in the car is safely strapped in.
Put your phone away. Distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes. Place your phone in the glove box or switch to “Do Not Disturb.”
