Dear Enumclaw School District Community,

Celebrating Learning and Partnership at Our Open Houses

This week, several cabinet members and I had the privilege of attending the final Open House events at our elementary schools. Each year, I’m reminded of the remarkable growth that takes place in such a short span of time, from the first days of September to the close of the month.

In classrooms across our district, student writing and art projects filled the walls, capturing both creativity and hard work. Teachers proudly shared the math standards their students are currently mastering and the skills they will continue to develop in the months ahead. What stood out most was not only the quality of the work but the excitement with which students spoke about their learning.

It was equally inspiring to see parents so deeply engaged, asking thoughtful questions about homework expectations, inquiring about reading choices, and celebrating their children’s accomplishments. This partnership between families and schools is essential. It affirms what we know to be true: the most impactful and lasting teaching and learning happens when we work together to prepare students for success, both in school and in the broader world.

Thank you for your continued partnership, encouragement, and belief in the potential of every student. Together, we are creating an environment where curiosity is nurtured, creativity is celebrated, and a love for learning thrives.

With gratitude,

Shaun

September is Attendance Awareness Month with logo and students in class raising hand

September is Attendance Awareness Month

School attendance is a major factor in student academic success. At all grades, students who miss no more than nine days per school year are the most engaged and on track for graduation. In fact, by 6th grade chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.

Everyone plays a part in student attendance - families and school staff are in this together. To learn more about promoting good school attendance and how you can help, visit www.attendanceworks.org
