Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
Constitution and Citizenship Day
It was brought to my attention that many people may not realize that Constitution Day is celebrated each year on September 17 in schools across the nation that receive federal support. This day offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the document that continues to shape our democracy.
Signed and adopted on September 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution established the framework of our government and defined the rights and responsibilities we hold as citizens.
To honor Constitution Day, our staff engage students in a variety of activities to learn how this historic document impacts their daily lives and why active, informed citizenship matters. These may include school-wide announcements highlighting the day’s importance, curated videos on the creation of the Bill of Rights, and classroom discussions that compare school rules or agreements to the U.S. Constitution. Some classes even participate in interactive quizzes to deepen their understanding. The activities are tailored to students’ grade levels and their prior experiences with the topic.
It’s also important to note that civics education is not limited to a single day, a deeper study of the Constitution and civic engagement is woven throughout our curriculum across all grade levels.
For those who were unaware of Constitution Day or its significance, we hope this provides a clearer understanding of how it is recognized and celebrated in our schools.
Shaun

September is Attendance Awareness Month
School attendance is a major factor in student academic success. At all grades, students who miss no more than nine days per school year are the most engaged and on track for graduation. In fact, by 6th grade chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
Everyone plays a part in student attendance - families and school staff are in this together. To learn more about promoting good school attendance and how you can help, visit www.attendanceworks.org
Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15-10/15)
September 15th to October 15th is a time to honor the rich history, culture, and accomplishments of Hispanic and Latino Americans of past and present.
ESD encourages you to explore the art, enjoy the cuisine, dive into the literature, and learn the stories of Hispanic and Latino Americans with roots in Latin American countries and cultures.
