Dear Enumclaw School District Community,

Welcome back! The 2025–26 school year has finally arrived, and it was clear from the very first day just how much our staff and students missed one another over the summer. I had the privilege of witnessing many joyful reunions, students and families greeting, and in some cases hugging, former teachers and staff members who had played such an important role in their lives last year.

Equally inspiring were the moments of connection with new teachers and staff, each ready to begin the important work of building relationships and learning about the needs and goals of the students they get to serve this year. Many of these first connections took place at back-to-school ice cream socials and orientation events thoughtfully organized by each of our schools. Our building principals were also deeply engaged, welcoming families, sharing areas of focus for their schools, and ensuring that students felt excited and prepared to begin this new chapter.

As I begin my third decade of “first days of school,” I can honestly say this one was every bit as joyful and energizing as my very first day as a classroom teacher. I encourage you to take time this year to learn more about what your students’ teachers hope to give to each student left in their charge, and the many ways you can support both students and teachers on this 2025–26 learning journey.

It is going to be a fantastic year of growth, learning, and partnership. We are so grateful to walk alongside you in this work and so excited for what lies ahead!

With appreciation,
Shaun

White River Bridge Update

Thank you for helping us launch another school year with energy, commitment, and care. As with every new year, unexpected challenges arise. And as always, our educators, step forward as the ultimate problem solvers, finding creative solutions in support of teaching and learning.

One of the greatest challenges this back-to-school season has been the abrupt closure of the White River Bridge, a major thoroughfare between the Enumclaw and White River School District communities. This closure has significantly disrupted travel for many staff and students.

In response, school by school, plans were created to ensure staff could continue their important work. Many rely on the new footbridge, walking or biking across it, while teams from each department and school organized carpool schedules to pick up and drop off staff on either side. This teamwork and compassion for one another made a real difference as we worked with city, county, and state leaders to find additional solutions.

As of last night and this morning, we have received encouraging updates:

  • King County Metro Transit has launched a pedestrian shuttle that is now transporting riders between the new park-and-ride east of the EMS parking lot and the footbridge crossing. More details are available here: King County Metro Pedestrian Shuttle Information.

  • Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced that the White River Bridge may reopen to single-lane, metered traffic by the end of September. Additional information is available here: WSDOT Bridge Repair Plans.

We will continue working with our partners to explore further support for staff and students.

Thank you for your patience, resilience, and care for one another during this time. Your commitment to our students and community is what makes Enumclaw School District such a special place to learn and work.

Shaun
