Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
With less than four weeks remaining in the 2024–25 school year, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many volunteers who serve in our school buildings and throughout our community.
On Thursday morning, I had the privilege of meeting with several PTA and PTO officers from our schools. We discussed the incredible opportunities they’ve created for students and staff, and I listened as they shared their exciting plans for the coming school year. While they acknowledged the occasional challenge of limited volunteer availability, they also told inspiring stories of those who did show up, making a meaningful difference for our students and school communities.
Thank you for the time, energy, and love you invest. Your contributions matter deeply.
As our conversation continued, one common concern emerged: how to engage more people in the life of our schools. I’ll admit, I didn’t have a perfect answer. But I offered this simple suggestion: invite others to start small. Ask them to volunteer for just one event, one opportunity to serve. Sometimes, all it takes is that first experience to spark a deeper connection and perhaps inspire ongoing involvement.
And, as we head into this holiday weekend, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all who have served in the Armed Forces, and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
This Memorial Day weekend, I invite you to join me in reflecting on the remarkable courage, dedication, and selflessness of our fallen heroes. Their sacrifices have helped preserve the freedoms we cherish, and their legacies continue to inspire us all.
Let us honor them not only with our remembrance but through our actions, by upholding the values they fought for and by supporting one another with compassion and unity.
We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the families of the fallen. Your resilience and strength do not go unnoticed. We are forever grateful.
Shaun

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month! While initially only federally observed for one week in May, honoring Asian-Pacific American Heritage was expanded to be observed for the entire month of May beginning in 1990. May was designated to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the US on May 7, 1843, as well as the anniversary of the transcontinental railroad's completion on May 10, 1869. A majority of workers who laid tracks for the railroads were Chinese immigrants.* You can visit the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center to learn more: *www.asianpacificheritage.gov
