Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
Into the Woods
I had the great pleasure of attending the opening night of Into the Woods, brought to life by the incredibly talented students of our performing arts department. I’ll admit, I was not previously familiar with this particular musical, composed by the legendary Stephen Sondheim and based on the book by James Lapine. However, experiencing it for the first time through the outstanding performances of our student actors made it all the more captivating.
From the moment the curtain rose, I was hooked. The set design was nothing short of remarkable, transforming our limited stage space into an ever-changing landscape of enchanted forests and fairy-tale settings. Each actor and actress delivered their lines with confidence and mastery, seamlessly weaving dialogue and song into a performance that was both engaging and emotionally resonant. At times, it felt as though the audience was not just watching the play but stepping into the story itself.
Into the Woods is an absolute must-see for everyone in our school community. If you have 90 minutes to spare this weekend, I wholeheartedly encourage you to experience this production before the final curtain call. I promise—you won’t be disappointed!
Thank you to the Enumclaw Schools Foundation for providing funding that supports the opportunity for all of our 2nd - 5th grade students to see a shortened version of this drama production in-person at the Enumclaw High School auditorium!
With appreciation,
Shaun

March is Music in Our Schools Month
As families and community members, we often only see the results of student music performances; however, music educators dedicate themselves to working with students through practices and rehearsals, pushing students further. ESD is proud to honor our music, choir, band, and orchestra teachers and the impact they have daily. Learn more about the importance of music in schools at the National Association of Music Education https://nafme.org/
March is Women's History Month
Please join us in celebrating March as Women's History Month. Women play a vital role in shaping our future, making up over 80% of the educators in the Enumclaw School District and making an impact in our community and beyond! Let us take a moment to appreciate the women who continue to inspire, nurture, and empower students every day.

On April 22, 2025, voters in the Enumclaw School District will have the opportunity to vote on a capital levy to fund urgent facility repairs, student health and safety improvements, and critical infrastructure needs.
The proposed list of levy projects includes approximately $3.7 million for HVAC repairs and replacements:
Southwood Elementary: HVAC damper/duct/control replacement for classrooms
Existing room temperature controls are over 40 years old, and the parts are no longer available. The Damper motors continue to fail, and in order to replace them, we have to replace the ductwork as well. The current damper motors are obsolete which limits the temperature controls and affects our ability to keep the classrooms at the required minimum temperature of 65 degrees.
Westwood Elementary: Replace the 200 building heat pumps (10)
The current heat pumps were installed in 2000 to heat individual classrooms. All units are 5 years beyond their expected lifespan.
Byron Kibler Elementary: Boiler Pumps Replacement
The current boiler pumps were installed in 2000. The pumps and the seals within the pumps have outlived their service life and continue to fail, creating a challenge for heating the individual units in each of the classrooms.
Enumclaw High School: Replace rooftop HVAC units and replace auditorium boilers and pumps
The current HVAC units are 25 years old with an expected 25-year lifespan. Numerous units have failed, leading to individual rooms being unable to provide the minimum temperature required. The current auditorium boilers were installed at EHS in 2000 and are corroded as they have exceeded their lifespan by 10 years.

The Enumclaw School District remains fully committed to providing a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for every student. In doing so, we carefully follow all state and federal laws and guidelines regarding student safety and rights.
The Enumclaw School District and Board has existing policies in place that address Limiting Immigration Enforcement in Schools - Board Policy 4300 and its accompanying procedure (4300P). These policies align with guidance from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). To ensure transparency and accessibility, we have made this information, along with additional resources, available on our website.
Our foremost responsibility is to ensure that every child in our schools is treated with dignity and respect and that our schools remain safe and welcoming environments for all students and families.
At the beginning of each school year families receive a questionnaire to determine eligibility for McKinney-Vento services.
OSPI recommends a mid-year check-in as an opportunity for anyone with a change to their housing circumstances to submit information. The McKinney-Vento questionnaire can be completed at: https://forms.gle/nKGLgV2PNHht5DtF7
IF YOU HAVE STABLE HOUSING, YOU DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE THIS FORM.
