Dear Enumclaw School District Community,
Growing Minds: Fall-Themed Learning Across Subjects
This time of year offers teachers a unique opportunity to design teaching and learning experiences that align with seasonal activities and events in our neighborhoods, communities, and across the country. These experiences connect with long-standing traditions and celebrations that students in our community have enjoyed for years.
This past week, I enjoyed visiting several of our schools to watch students engage in fall-themed activities across various academic disciplines. At the Birth to Five Center, students explored concepts in science as they learned why leaves fall from trees in autumn and why pumpkins float on water. At the elementary level, students integrated math and geometry as they discussed how to arrange a plot of land to maximize pumpkin yield. At the secondary level, students applied biology and environmental science concepts to create compost from decaying material, which they could then use to enrich gardens in the spring. It’s been a real pleasure to hear and learn so much from our incredible students and their dedicated teachers!
I continue to be impressed by the wide range of “opportunities” for teaching and learning created by the staff and students of the Enumclaw School District. Keep setting the bar high and leading the way in our community and beyond!
