Dear Enumclaw School Community,
This week, I had the privilege of attending several school assemblies honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Teaching and learning from our shared history can sometimes be challenging, especially when we are tasked with providing context for a period in history that our students may not feel closely connected to.
As I reflect on this, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the school staff (and students) for their dedication and creativity in organizing and presenting the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assemblies this week. These events, held across the district, created meaningful opportunities for students, staff, and community members to reflect on the life and enduring legacy of this extraordinary historical figure.
Dr. King's message of equality, justice, and love continues to resonate deeply, reminding us of the power of unity and the ongoing significance of his call to action. The thoughtfulness and care with which these assemblies were planned and presented ensured that Dr. King's teachings were not only honored but also brought to life in ways that inspired reflection and dialogue among all participants.
Once again, thank you to the leaders of our school community for your unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where diversity is celebrated, understanding is promoted, and students are empowered to carry forward Dr. King's vision for a better future. Your efforts in creating these impactful experiences greatly contribute to the heart and spirit of our schools and our community.
With gratitude,
Shaun
