Great job on our safety drill during the first week of school! It’s wonderful to see and hear students practicing how to stay safe. They did an excellent job following directions and showing responsibility.

We’ve now wrapped up our first full week of school, and we couldn’t be prouder. Students are settling into routines, following expectations, and already making great strides in their learning. It’s also been amazing to see the kindness, cooperation, and excitement for learning that students are bringing into their classrooms each day.

Thank you, families, for supporting your children as they transition back into the school year—we are off to such a positive start!

Safety Week Continues

September 15th- 19th is Safety Week 2. We will teach the following drills to your students and practice them as a school. We will do so with caring and calming language to minimize any fear or worry. In summary, we teach our students the same things you do... we stay away from anything dangerous.

The following is our Safety Week schedule with the purpose of the drill and a few question stems to ask your children or talking points so that you can be an active participant

Curriculum Night!! - Save the Date!!

Join us on Thursday, September 25th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm for a fun and informative evening at Black Diamond Elementary. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our dedicated teachers, tour our classrooms, and learn more about our engaging curriculum and vibrant school community. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing what makes our school special. We hope to see you there! Free childcare will be available for school aged children.

Water Only Request

Just a friendly reminder—please don’t send sugary drinks to school with your student. We ask that only water be brought into classrooms. Water helps keep students hydrated, energized, and ready to learn throughout the day. Thanks for helping us create a healthy and focused learning environment!

Cell Phone/Smart Watch Policy

Elementary schools will continue to enforce this policy as stated here in the elementary student handbook: All cell phones, iPods, cameras, and other electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight during the school day, unless under the supervision of a staff member. If a student wears a watch phone, it should not be used for communication, recording, or games. After the second misuse, watch phones will need to be turned off and put in the backpack during the school day. As always, we understand that our students have individualized needs, and we will provide accommodations as necessary or required on an individual basis.

Breakfast and Lunch
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications

Exciting news! Black Diamond has qualified for free breakfast and lunch for ALL students for the 2025–2026 school year! Please note, that if a student takes milk only, there will be a $0.65 charge.

Your student will bring home a Free & Reduced Meals form. If you believe your family may qualify based on income, please complete and return this form.

Why is this important? If enough families qualify, Black Diamond will be able to continue offering free meals for all students in future years as well. Thank you for helping us keep this valuable program going!

BACKPACK PROGRAM

For families struggling to keep enough food in the house during weekends and school breaks, there is help available. Each Friday, hundreds of students of the Enumclaw School District receive food bags containing fresh organic fruit, entree servings, breakfasts, and snacks. Food bags are discreetly distributed at school in such a way that the students remain anonymous to classmates.

If your family could benefit from this program, contact your student’s school counselor or complete the
online enrollment form.

This program is brought to families of the Enumclaw School District by the Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation.

Attendance Matters

September is Attendance Awareness Month

School attendance is a major factor in student academic success. At all grades, students who miss no more than nine days per school year are the most engaged and on track for graduation. In fact, by 6th grade chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.

Everyone plays a part in student attendance - families and school staff are in this together. To learn more about promoting good school attendance and how you can help, visit
