Hello Black Diamond Elementary Families,

What a wonderful first week of school it has been! Our hallways and classrooms were filled with energy as students reconnected with familiar faces and welcomed new friends into our Black Diamond family. Teachers and staff have been busy setting the stage for a positive year ahead, making sure every child feels supported, encouraged, and ready to learn. Already, the building is alive with smiles, laughter, and the excitement of new routines taking shape.

A heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us for our Ice Cream Social. Your presence and enthusiasm make such a difference and truly help strengthen our school community. We are so grateful for your partnership and look forward to the many opportunities we’ll have to learn and grow together this year.

This year we are excited to continue using PurposeFull People, a program that helps students build character skills to support success both in school and in life. We are kicking things off with a “Kindness Kickoff.” Kindness means acting with understanding, generosity, and care. By intentionally teaching what kindness looks like, we are also teaching valuable skills such as listening, building friendships, solving conflicts, and developing leadership.

Throughout the year, kindness will be taught alongside Empathy, Respect, and Cooperation. Each month we will highlight a different character trait under the themes of BE KIND, BE STRONG, and BE WELL. We look forward to seeing how these lessons will inspire our students and strengthen our school community.

Safety Week
September 8th-12th is Safety Week 1. We will teach the following drills to your student and practice them as a school. We will do so with caring and calming language to minimize any fear or worry. In summary, we teach our students the same things you do... we stay away from anything dangerous.

The following is our Safety Week schedule with the purpose of the drill and a few question stems to ask your children or talking points so that you can be an active participant.

Breakfast and Lunch
Free & Reduced Lunch Applications

Exciting news! Black Diamond has qualified for free breakfast and lunch for ALL students for the 2025–2026 school year! Please note, that if a student takes milk only, there will be a $0.65 charge.

During the first week of school, your student will bring home a Free & Reduced Meals form. If you believe your family may qualify based on income, please complete and return this form.

Why is this important? If enough families qualify, Black Diamond will be able to continue offering free meals for all students in future years as well. Thank you for helping us keep this valuable program going!

BACKPACK PROGRAM

For families struggling to keep enough food in the house during weekends and school breaks, there is help available. Each Friday, over 300 students of the Enumclaw School District receive food bags containing fresh organic fruit, 4 entree servings, 2 breakfasts, and 2 snacks. Food bags are discreetly distributed at school in such a way that the students remain anonymous to classmates.

If your family could benefit from this program, contact your student’s school counselor or complete the online enrollment form.

This program is brought to families of the Enumclaw School District by the Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation.

Attendance Matters

September is Attendance Awareness Month

School attendance is a major factor in student academic success. At all grades, students who miss no more than nine days per school year are the most engaged and on track for graduation. In fact, by 6th grade chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.

Everyone plays a part in student attendance - families and school staff are in this together. To learn more about promoting good school attendance and how you can help, visit
